What to Expect When Meeting With an Estate Planning Attorney

Thinking about estate planning? Taking the first step can feel overwhelming, especially if you are unsure what to expect. Understanding the process ahead of time can help you feel more prepared and confident about protecting your future.

At the Law Offices of Elsa W. Smith, LLC, we believe estate planning should begin with understanding you, your life, your priorities, and the people who matter most.

Here’s how our process works.

Step 1: Schedule a Complimentary Assessment Call

Your first step is to schedule a complimentary 15-minute Assessment Call with our Client Success Coordinator. Please note that this is not a consultation with an attorney. Rather, it is an opportunity to share your general needs, ask preliminary questions, and determine whether scheduling an attorney consultation would be the appropriate next step.

This conversation also helps us determine whether our services are a good fit for your circumstances and needs.

Step 2: Reserve Your Consultation

If moving forward is appropriate, the next step is to schedule a consultation with an attorney. Your appointment is confirmed once the required consultation fee has been paid. This reserves dedicated time on the attorney’s calendar to learn more about your situation and discuss estate planning options that may best address your needs.

Step 3: Complete Your Online Questionnaire

Before your consultation, you’ll complete an online estate planning questionnaire covering important details about your family, assets, goals, and the people you want to protect.

You do not need to have all the answers figured out before completing the questionnaire. Its purpose is to give us a better understanding of your circumstances so that we can focus our consultation on your goals and potential estate planning strategies rather than spending valuable time gathering basic information.

Step 4: Let’s Talk About Your Goals

During our video consultation, we want to hear your story. Why is estate planning important to you at this point in your life? Has a recent life change, a growing family, the purchase of a new home, or concerns about the future prompted you to take this step?

Your answers will help guide our conversation. We’ll ask follow-up questions, address your concerns, and discuss estate planning options that may align with your needs and priorities.

Estate planning is personal. Your plan should reflect your unique circumstances, your wishes, and the people you want to protect and provide for.

Your First Step Toward Greater Peace of Mind

Estate planning is about more than simply preparing legal documents. It is an opportunity to make thoughtful decisions about your future, protect the people you love, and ensure that your wishes are clearly understood.

You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Start by learning about your options and taking the process one step at a time.

Ready to get started? Schedule your complimentary 15-minute Assessment Call with the Law Offices of Elsa W. Smith, LLC, and take the first step toward a plan built around you.

I highly recommend Attorney Smith to carry out all your estate planning needs. Her approach includes taking the time to educate her clients on their options and explaining tough to understand concepts in a clear way without rushing through the process. Her demeanor made the necessary challenging and personal conversations less intimidating. Attorney Smith and her team (Alexandra) were efficient, patient, and responsive, operating like a well oiled machine. My experience was top notch!
