Special Immigrant Juveniles
If you are in the United States and need the protection of a juvenile court because you have been abused, abandoned or neglected by a parent, you may be eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) classification. If SIJ classification is granted, you may qualify for lawful permanent residency (also known as getting a Green Card).
Protective Orders / Peace Orders
A protective order (also referred to as restraining order) is an order used by a court to protect you if you have been the victim of of alleged domestic violence, assault, harassment, stalking, or sexual assault. A peace order provides protection to people experiencing certain kinds of abuse who are not eligible for protective orders.
Adult Name Change – A person can change their name for any reason. The only condition for a name change is that the name change is not for any illegal or fraudulent purpose and the new name does not interfere with the rights of others.
Child Name Change –
If both parents consent to the name change: If the child is over one year old but still a minor, we can assist you in filing a Petition for Name Change. If a child is under 12 months, you may not need a court order. The Department of Health can change the name if both parents agree.
If both parents do not consent to the child’s name change, then a court must decide. The guiding factor will be whether it is in the best interest of the child to approve the name change. Among other factors that a court will consider are the strength of the mother-child relationship as well as that of the father-child relationship.
Unbundled or Limited Scope Legal Services
Many people go without an attorney because they believe they cannot afford one. If you cannot afford to hire a firm to handle your entire family law case from start to finish, you can hire them to handle specific parts, which “unbundles” these tasks from the parts you can do yourself. We encourage you to contact us today to see whether unbundled or limited scope legal services are right for your family law matter.
